As-Built Redlines

Mark up drawings as editable data and issue the redline set like any other submittal.

As-builts usually mean ink on a scan: once the markups are flattened into a PDF, fixing one callout means redoing the sheet. In Submittal Kit a redline stays editable data on top of the source drawings until the moment you build the output.

Create a redline

A redline is a submittal type, so it starts on the project's Submittals page:

  1. Choose New Submittal and pick your type from the Redlines group.
  2. Name it, then drop the drawing set PDF on Drawing set, or choose browse files.
  3. Choose Create submittal. The redline's page opens; choose Open markup editor to start marking up.

An O&M manual's as-built redlines section has a Create an as-built redline link while the project has no built redlines yet. It opens the same form with a redline type already picked.

Made one by mistake? Delete submittal at the bottom of the redline's page removes it with its drawing set and marks, and unlinks it from any O&M manual that attached it. Once a redline has been issued, the same button reads Archive submittal and keeps its submission history.

Mark it up

The editor uses the same shape tools as datasheet highlighting: highlights, boxes, text, lines, arrows, clouds, and stamps. Every mark is a live object you can move, restyle, or delete later: select it to get its options in a bar just above it, or find it under Marks. Cmd or Ctrl+Z undoes.

When marks were replayed from a donor PDF, the app flags marks that look like the donor set's old review stamp (a repeated name and date on every page) in a banner. Show jumps to one, Remove all clears them in one action, Keep them dismisses the flag. Your old stamp never rides silently into the new issue.

The Stamp tool presses your company redline stamp onto every page, carrying your name and the date. Admins can set up the stamp under Settings, Redline stamp; your name comes from your Account page.

Build and issue

Press Build PDF to bake the current marks into the output set. If you edit after building, the editor tells you the output is out of date so a stale file never goes out. Download the built set, or issue it through the normal submittal flow with a number and a permanent issued record, exactly like any other package. Once issued, the redline's page lists each submission under Marked-up set, where you open its review to log what came back. See Issue a submission and Compile a submittal.

Step 1 of 6 A redline is a submittal, so it lives on the project's Submittals page. Open it.
  2. As-Built Redlines, step 2: the screen with the control outlined
Step 2 of 6 Marked-up set shows the source drawings and their marks. Click Open markup editor.
  3. As-Built Redlines, step 3: the screen with the control outlined
Step 3 of 6 The shape tools are the same as datasheet highlighting. Cloud draws a revision cloud around a change.
  4. As-Built Redlines, step 4: the screen with the control outlined
Step 4 of 6 Every mark stays a live object. Marks lists them; select one and its options sit in a bar just above it, to restyle or delete. Cmd or Ctrl+Z undoes.
  5. As-Built Redlines, step 5: the screen with the control outlined
Step 5 of 6 Stamp presses your company redline stamp onto every page, carrying your name and the date.
  6. As-Built Redlines, step 6: the screen with the control outlined
Step 6 of 6 Press Build PDF to bake the marks into the output set, then issue it with Mark as submitted like any package.

Because marks stay data, the next revision of the as-built starts from the previous one. Rebuild after each round of field changes instead of re-marking a fresh scan. Field deficiencies belong on the Punch List instead.
